Frame Material
A sofa’s frame — its structure and legs — shapes both its strength and its character. Typically crafted from solid wood, engineered wood, metal or a mixture, it determines how the sofa lasts, feels and settles into your home. At Grey & Sanders, we choose premium materials to ensure every couch is lasting, supportive and harmoniously designed.
Sofas with solid wood base or engineered wood base are gentle on floors and bring a warm touch of natural beauty to your homes. Though more prone to scratches and moisture, quality wood, like what we offer here at Grey & Sanders, endures beautifully with care. Its organic charm complements Nordic, Wabi Sabi and modern minimalist spaces.
Sofas with metal structure and legs are strong and resilient, holding its form and resisting wear over time. Though heavier and less gentle to flooring, its sleek and contemporary edge is perfect for industrial, modern and luxurious interiors.
Suspension
The suspension system — the network of springs within the frame — forms the balance of support and softness that shapes how it feels over time. At Grey & Sanders, our handcrafted sofas and couches are crafted with two key suspension systems, webbing and zig-zag springs.
Webbing refers to straps woven from jute, nylon, polypropylene or pirelli, stretched across the sofa to form a flexible base that moves with you. It offers a gentle, sink-in comfort.
Zig-Zag spring on the other hand, refers to heavy-gauge metal wires in zigzag patterns, attached across the sofa, to provide steady and lasting support. Firm with even distribution of weight, they hold their shape beautifully, perfect for those who prefer structure beneath softness.
Filling Insert
A sofa’s filling insert is the heart of the sofa -— shaping its comfort, support, and silhouette. The right sofa should match your comfort preference. At Grey & Sanders, our sofas are crafted with a range of fillings — from firm and supportive to soft and sink-in — so you can find your perfect feel. For some designs, we blend materials for a balanced feel of both comfort and structure.
A sofa with high-density foam as its filling insert is firm and lasting. It retains its shape beautifully over time and is perfect for those who prefer supportive seating.
A sofa with fibre fill as its filling insert is soft and plush as it is made from synthetic materials that aim to offer the same feel as natural down. It is often paired with foam for gentle yet supportive comfort.
A sofa with feather fill as its filling insert is luxurious and inviting. It offers a deep sink-in comfort that’s perfect for lounging.
Upholstery
Upholstery completes the sofa. It shapes how it feels, how it looks, and how it welcomes you into your home. A good quality sofa is one that allows you to select the upholstery that fits your style, your home, and the way you live. At Grey & Sanders, our collection includes premium fabrics with easy-clean, cooling, and pet-friendly options, along with luxurious full- and top-grain aniline leather, thoughtfully selected to complement our curated designs — from minimalist to luxurious, modern sofas. You may customise your fabric sofa or leather sofa, creating a bespoke sofa that is as personal as it is beautiful.
