FAQs

How to choose the perfect bed frame for your bedroom in Singapore?

Choose the right size

When buying a bed frame, the first step is to ensure it fits comfortably in your room. A typical bedroom in a Singapore 3 to 4 room flat or condominium measures around 10 to 12 square metres, with wall lengths between 2.8 to 3.5 metres.

Your bed frame size greatly impacts how much room you have to move around. Ideally, leave about 60 to 75 cm of space around your bed so you can walk and clean comfortably without feeling cramped.

Next, think about which mattress size best suits your lifestyle. A single-sized mattress (W91cm x L190cm) is ideal for children while a super-single-sized mattress (W107cm x L190cm) is great for growing teenagers or single adults. A queen-sized mattress (W152cm x L190cm) is perfect for couples or smaller bedrooms in urban apartments while a king-sized mattress (W183cm x L190cm) is best for larger rooms or families who enjoy lounging together.

Make sure your bed frame dimensions match your mattress. Mattress sizes can vary across regions — some furniture stores in Singapore also offer European, UK or US Californian sizes, so it's important to check your bed frame can accommodate your mattress before purchasing.

Finally, consider your bedside table setup. Do you value extra bed space or prefer added storage for convenience? In a typical room, a king-sized bed may only leave room for one bedside table, while a queen-sized bed usually allows for two.

Decide what material suits your bedroom

Your choice of bed frame material can completely transform the look and feel of your bedroom. Whether you’re drawn to the cosy comfort of fabric, the luxurious elegance of leather or the natural warmth of solid wood, each material brings its own charm and character.

Ensure the style complements your bedroom

From tufted details to fluted panels, your bed frame sets the tone for your entire bedroom interior — ensure it complements your overall theme for a cohesive bedroom design. If you love classic elegance, an upholstered bed frame with tufted accents adds vintage charm. If you prefer a lighter, more modern look, opt for a solid wood bed frame that achieves that Scandinavian or mid-century modern look with clean lines and natural textures. Bring personality into your space through layered textures and materials such as soft rugs and linen sheets or cushions beneath and above the bed. Accentuate your bed frame with warm lighting, decorative ornaments or greenery to bring depth, warmth and a sense of comfort to your bedroom.

Consider what functional needs you require

Living in modern apartments in Singapore often means making the most of limited space. A bed frame with smart storage can help you declutter and stay organised without compromising style. Consider a bed frame with a hidden ledge behind the headboard — perfect for keeping essentials like your phone, glasses or a book within easy reach while eliminating the need for bedside tables. For even more storage, a storage bed frame or platform bed with storage offers practical space to tuck away items such as winter clothes, extra bedsheets or old keepsakes.

Measure perfect frame height

To measure the ideal frame height, measure your knee length and subtract your mattress height.

Solid wood vs upholstered bed frames — what are the pros & cons?

At Grey & Sanders, we offer solid wood bed frames and upholstered bed frames.

Wooden bed frames are perfect for those who appreciate the natural beauty of solid wood. They are exceptionally durable and infuse your bedroom with a sense of organic warmth. Our wooden bed frames are made from solid Ashwood or Acacia wood. While wood is naturally susceptible to humidity and scratches, proper care helps it last for many years without losing its charm.

Upholstered bed frames bring an added layer of comfort and softness to your bedroom. Their cushioned headboards offer support for leaning back and seating upright — ideal for watching tv, reading a book or simply relaxing before bed.

Leather bed frames elevate your bedroom with refined sophistication. Upholstered in premium genuine leather, they lend a polished, contemporary look while providing plush comfort. Like all leather furniture, they can be prone to scratches and cracking, but regular conditioning keeps it supple, rich and beautiful for years.

Fabric bed frames create a cosy, inviting atmosphere — perfect for those who love warmth and texture in their interiors. While fabric can attract dust or stain, we offer easy-clean fabric options that make maintenance simple — simply wipe away spills for easy upkeep.

What bed frame sizes are available?

At Grey & Sanders, we offer bed frames in a range of sizes to suit every home — from single bed frame, super single bed frame, queen bed frame and king bed frame in standard Singapore dimensions, to European queen and European king options for those who prefer larger proportions.

Are your bed frames compatible with standard mattress sizes in Singapore?

Most of our bed frames are designed to fit Singapore-standard mattresses. If you prefer European bed frame sizes, the Verona Leather Bed is our dedicated option available in European queen and king sizes.

It’s important to note that mattress sizes differ across regions. European and UK sizes are generally slightly longer and narrower, while US and Californian sizes tend to be wider. In contrast, Singapore and Asian sizes are designed to fit compact urban spaces. Always check your retailer’s specifications before purchasing to ensure your bed frame and mattress pair perfectly.

How high should a bed frame be for optimal comfort?

The perfect bed height allows you to sit comfortably on the side of your mattress with your feet touching the ground and your knees bent at a 90-degree angle. This ensures ease of movement when getting in and out of bed  — an important factor for comfort.

Typically, the ideal bed height ranges from 40 to 60 cm, depending on your body height. You can calculate yours by measuring the distance from the floor to your knees and subtracting your mattress height.
