For those who prefer a bright and clean look, the Scandinavian or Minimalist table is a top seller. These designs usually feature very light-colored woods like ash or blonde oak, clean lines, and slim profiles. Their visual lightness makes them ideal for small, narrow hallways or darker entryways.

The Modern Farmhouse or Rustic table is also highly popular, especially among homeowners seeking a warm and welcoming atmosphere. To choose the right console table size, start by measuring your available wall or entryway space accurately. A console table typically looks best when it occupies about two-thirds of the wall width, creating visual balance. For comfortable movement, it is recommended to leave at least 90 cm of clearance in hallways or entryways. If your hallway is very narrow, look for a slim or hallway console with a depth of 25-30 cm

For compact homes or smaller entryways, hallway side tables measuring approximately 120 to 140 cm in length are both practical and elegant. In larger spaces such as living rooms, foyers, offices or common areas, longer wood slab console tables between 150 to 180cm are popular, offering more surface area for styling and functionality.

This relates to how the table is used. Minimal console tables with just a top and legs are ideal for small entryways, as they keep the space visually open. Organiser tables with drawers or shelves are practical for busy households needing storage near the entrance. Floating or wall-mounted tables are best for very tight hallways where floor space is limited.

Joinery Quality

This concerns how the table feels and looks up close. Live-edge tables have a raw, organic texture that highlights the natural shape of the wood. Smooth or satin-finished tables feel soft and refined, while distressed finishes intentionally feature marks and texture for a rustic appearance.

Maintenance for a wood slab console table is similar to that of other solid wood pieces. 

Wipe the surface regularly with a soft, damp microfiber cloth. Clean up spills promptly to prevent staining, and use coasters or placemats to protect against heat marks and scratches. Avoid harsh cleaners or chemical-based products, and keep the console table away from direct sunlight or heat sources.

If stains occur, specialised wood care products such as Rubio Tannin Remover or Surface Care Spray can be used for gentle spot treatment.
